An emergence and convergence of media.

Photography from Aristotle, to the 16th Century, to the new millenium and into the digital realm.

Where did photography start?

See some starting points of the origin of photography along with an adequate timeline at Photo-dot-net.  A fairly comprehensive list, with some additions submitted below the main list.

Plato perhaps was one of the first to alagorize and present subject matter utilizing the "principles of photography" in his well known Allegory of the Cave. A good anchor point though for a true beginning in photography starts with Roger Bacon and his practical invention of the Camera Obscura

A good start begins with an acceptable working timeline when exploring most technical discoveries and advancements can be useful and photography's timeline is interesting and stimulating.

Where was photography first used? Actually by  an inventor named Nicéphore Niépce in 1822; but, sadly it was not successful until 1825. The earlier process began what is known as photoetching.  However, the FIRST photograph he made can be seen here and is entitled "View from the Window at Le Gras."

How many "types of photography" are there anyway? Click and see for yourself.
